CV Joint Replacement

Example ( Opel,VW,Fiat Uno,Ford Bantam). - Slide rubber boot from drive shaft, you can mark the star(hub) in relation to the cage and joint housing. - Swivel the star and the cage to rectangular apertures are aligned with housing, then withdraw the cage and the star. The balls must come out one after one. - Turn the cage until rectangular apertures are aligned with the housing, then withdraw the cage and the star. - Turn the star and insert one segment into one of the rectangular aperture, swivel the star from the cage. The joint component including balls same seize , must only be fitted to the correct side. Clean the component,examine for crack, wear and damage. The vibration, noise on turns left or right, and noise on taking up drive, you have worn drive shaft joints. To reassembly is same operation to dismantling, the difference between is you insert the balls back. Now, you know how the CV Joint work and from your visual inspection or your auto mechanic you determine why your car was making noise in turn. Understand your Car


Your car’s suspension is composed of a system of shock absorbers, springs and linkages that connects the vehicle’s body to its wheels. It contributes to the car’s braking and handling.

There are two general kinds of suspension systems: independent and dependent. It refers to the opposite wheel’s ability to move against or towards of each other.

Independent suspensions have several subtypes, including double wishbones, multiple-links and McPherson struts. Independent suspensions are said to be more comfortable and capable in road holding on varied surfaces. It allows the wheels to rise and fall on their own without affecting the opposite wheel. Some suspension devises the link the wheels are still classified as independent, an example of this is sway bars.

Dependent suspensions include types like rigid axles and torsion-beams. These are more versatile and are also cheaper. It normally has a beam or a live axle that holds wheels parallel to each other and perpendicular to the atv axle. When the camber of one wheel changes, the camber of the opposite wheel follows in the same direction. Dependent suspensions are most common on vehicles that carry large loads.

There is a third type, which is semi-independent. Here, the motion of one wheel affects the position of the others, but they are not rigidly attached to each other. A twist-beam rear suspension is an example of this system.

Atv Buyer's Guide: 15 Things To Check Before You Buy


Are you in the market for an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV)? An ATV can provide you with years of fun outdoors, but if you don't know what to look for, you're in for a giant headache. This ATV buyer's guide will provide you with 15 things to check before you buy. Whether you're a seasoned expert or just getting started, the following will be beneficial to you.

When it comes to shopping for an ATV, there are a ton of things you should keep in mind so you can get the best possible machine for your dollar. Here is a list of 15 things to look for when shopping for an ATV or quad.

1. Take it for a ride. It is an ALL Terrain Vehicle, right? So, you should pretty much be able to take it for a test drive just about anywhere. If the seller has a problem with you taking it out for a spin, there's probably something wrong with it.

2. Check the head lights, tail lights, engine shut off switch and key switch. All should be in perfect working order.

3. Check the hand, foot and parking brakes. Do they operate smoothly or stick? Be sure to check for damaged or cracked cables.

4. Move the handlebars back and forth. This will help you identify worn tie rod ends.

5. Remove the seat and take the air box lid off. A clean air box and filter is a good sign - if there's water in it, the engine could be damaged.

6. Check for worn out tires or tires full of plugs. If they are worn or plugged a lot, it's not necessarily a problem but it could get you a discount on the price.

7. Check the exhaust to make sure that the spark arrestor is still there. Almost every state and national forest requires that you have one. If it has been removed, make sure they replace it before you buy.

8. Check the engine oil to make sure it's clean and at an optimum level. This should give you a quick idea of how well the engine has been maintained by the current or previous owner.

9. Check the gas tank for rust (use a flashlight). Yes, a gas tank can rush, and rust can cause problems for the carburetor.

10. Now, pick up the front of the quad and stand it up on the rear grab bar so you can check the undercarriage for damage.

11. While it's in this position, look at the frame. Make sure it isn't bent, cracked or rusted.

12. Inspect the CV joint boots (4x4). If there are any cracks or tears, they could contain water or dirt and that's costly to repair.

13. If it's possible, remove the front and rear differential inspection plugs (4x4). If the lube looks dirty, the oil is probably contaminated and there could be bearing damage.

14. Look closely at the front or rear sprockets. Each point should be uniform. If they are worn more on one side or have a hooked appearance, a new chain and sprocket set is in order.

15. Try to move each front wheel in and out from top to bottom and side to side to check for worn wheel bearings and ball joints. Do the same for the rear.

Car Troubleshooting

Even if you are not mechanically inclined, you may be able to diagnose the problem and fix it yourself, possibly saving you some money on repairs. If you suspect that you've got a serious mechanical problem, check your ATV insurance to see if it's covered before you head to the repair shop. Troubleshooting an ATV that is having maintenance problems can be done easily.

For ATV Wheels and Tires, The repair process is straightforward. There are many troubles shooting for the ATV Wheels and Tires some of them are given below:-

PROBLEM -- Noisy, Chain jumping, sparks flying from rear axle, metal popping out of Bearings A) You need to replace the rear axle bearings- Common problem.

PROBLEM -- rear axle looks bent A) Chain is too tight.

PROBLEM - rear brake caliper comes off because bolts vibrate out A) Put bolts back in, but first put LOCK TIGHT on the threads so that the bolts will not vibrate out.

PROBLEM - Blown engine (a)Engine stuck or froze - Replace crankcase and other related parts (b) Skirt broken off piston, hole in crankcase - Both result in engine not running, full compression. No crankcase pressure, which is needed for 2 stroke engine.

PROBLEM - Broken piston skirt:- (a)Piston fatigue from scoring or Excessive piston to cylinder clearance - Repair or replace cylinder and piston

PROBLEM - Melted Piston top:- (a) Engine overheating - Low coolant level in radiator (liquid cooled) (b) Lean air fuel ration - Restricted cooling fins (air cooled) (c) Air leak in crankcase - Clean carburetor and jets (d) Incorrect ignition timing - Repair as needed (e) Incorrect spark plug - Adjust timing per specification Install correct spark plug

PROBLEM - Engine has low power:-

(a)Cylinder, piston and ring wear or damaged - Perform compression check (b)PVT not working properly - Clean repairs or replace as needed (c) Restricted or blocked exhaust - Repair, clean or replace exhaust system

PROBLEM - Engine turns over but does not start:-

(a)Dirt in fuel line or fuel filter - Clean or replace valve as necessary (b)Fuel will not pass through on-off valve (petcock) - Repair vent system (c)Fuel tank vent plugged - Clean or replace as needed

PROBLEM - Carburetor starter circuit or Engine flooded or Low compression :-

(a)Turn off fuel and drain crankcase (b)Inspect carburator venting system for blockage (c)Inspect carburator needle and seat (d) Inpect head gasket (e) Inspect piston and cylinder, repair as required.
